A backstage update has emerged on Chris Jericho’s current AEW status.
Chris Jericho, who has been an AEW mainstay since its inception, has been inactive since April. The Nueve was away on tour with his band, Fozzy.
Jericho was last seen on the April 9th episode of AEW Dynamite, where he confronted his “pupils” Big Bill and Bryan Keith, stating that he was not angry about their loss, but that he was disappointed in them. He then went on to have a breakdown in-ring and suggested that it was better for him to walk away.
The reaction of The Learning Tree was valid, as he had set his disciples to prove themselves, as he himself lost the ROH World Championship to Bandido at the Dynasty PPV. And true to his word, he hasn’t been seen on TV since.
AEW Currently Has No Plans For Chris Jericho
With the tour ending on the 31st of May at CrushFest, there has been no update about Jericho’s return. A report from Dave Meltzer now suggests that fans may have to wait longer.
On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer noted that currently, there are no plans set for the former world champion, even though Jericho is free for a return. He said:
“His Fozzy tour is over. So it’s like right now he’s done some TV work while he’s been gone, a couple of TV shows that were, he filmed, but, as far as, coming back to AW there’s, you know, nothing on the table right now, but I think he’s you know, as far as is he ready and available? I mean, technically he’s always been available, even when he tours. Wednesday’s opened, but, you know, I think that he felt that it was time for a break. And so that’s that. So that’s the deal with them.”
This could indicate a situation where both parties could be taking time to figure out the next steps with Jericho, known for periodically refreshing his character.
Another interesting point is that his contract is coming up at the end of this year, and this absence has many speculating about his return to the WWE, something the star is also open to.
Whatever the situation will be, a Jericho comeback will definitely make headlines.
