AJ Lee’s possible return got an AEW talent excited.

Fans haven’t seen AJ Lee wrestle for over 10 years, as her last appearance took place in 2015. Following CM Punk‘s WWE return in 2023, many thought that after The Best in the World mended bridges with the Stamford-based promotion, it was only a matter of time before the former Divas Champion would appear again, but that wasn’t the case.

Rumors of AJ’s return have been present since Punk’s comeback, but none have come to fruition. However, that all changed when Becky Lynch aligned with Seth Rollins again at Clash in Paris, costing the Chicago-born star the World Heavyweight Championship.

Not only that, but The Man verbally and physically attacking Punk on RAW, followed by hints from The Voice of the Voiceless, got fans hoping that Lee is set to return on SmackDown. Unsurprisingly, even AEW commentator Jim Ross is looking forward to the possible return of the former Divas Champion.

Jim Ross Is Not Completely Surprised If AJ Lee Does Return To WWE

In the latest episode of Grilling JR with Jim Ross, the AEW personality said that he was a fan of AJ Lee and praised her for her time in WWE. He added that not only does she have a well-known name, but being married to CM Punk has also elevated her status.

I was a fan of her work. I thought she did a great job. She’s always in good shape, she learned well. So, it’s a new star, that’s not a new star, but a star that certainly has built up anticipation for her return. She’s got that brain of CM Punk access, which is a good thing. But she’s a star that’s got name identity, and who she’s married to didn’t hurt nothing. She’s a unique character, unique facial expressions, unique body English. She’s athletic.”

The AEW commentator added that he wasn’t completely shocked about Lee possibly returning, as it made sense for him for AJ to do it. He wished her the best of luck and noted that it’s always good for something significant to happen in professional wrestling.

I’m a little bit surprised that she’s jumping back in the game, but not totally. I’m not shocked. It makes sense to me. So, I wish her well. Good girl. Pleasant. I’m all pulling for her. I hope she does a great job. It never hurts for the business to get somebody back that has been a star. We’ll see where it takes us. I’m pulling for her. Anything new and significant is a good thing for pro wrestling.”
