AEW’s JD Drake Calls Out NXT’s Josh Briggs For Stealing His Move

The WorkHorsemen’s JD Drake insists that Josh Briggs’ offense on the latest episode of NXT isn’t as innovative as Booker T claimed!

On the most recent episode of NXT, former NXT UK Tag Team Champions Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen took part in a triple threat tag team match to determine the new number one contenders to face Pretty Deadly for the NXT Tag Team Championships. While the match was won by Edris Enofe and Malik Blade, Josh Briggs impressed with a series of moves, including one where he lifted his opponent up onto the ring apron before delivering a clothesline.

Commentator Booker T said that he’d never seen anything like that before; however, AEW star JD Drake took exception to this and took to social media during the show to claim ownership of the move, saying that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

“At least let them know where you got it from Josh Briggs. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

He expanded on this claim with a quote tweet of the move in question, saying that he used the move when he worked with Briggs during their time in the now-defunct promotion Evolve.

“I did this in 2015-16. Worked with Josh in Evolve for a few years. Guess I made an impression.

September 4. 2015 as a matter of fact.”

Drake’s long time WorkHorsemen tag team partner Anthony Henry also commented on the situation, backing up his partner and saying that he’d never seen Briggs use the move before the October 11th episode of NXT.

“He has done this since I have known him. Never seen Josh do it until now.”

JD Drake and Anthony Henry last competed in AEW on the October 4th episode of AEW Dark, losing a tag team match to Matt Sydal and Dante Martin.
