A new WWE documentary taking a deep dive into the career of Cody Rhodes will not feature footage from AEW.
American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodesis set to be released on July 31st and will take a look back at Rhodes’ departure from WWE in 2016 and the road back to the company at WrestleMania 38.
After leaving WWE in 2016, upset at the creative he had been given in recent years, Rhodes embarked on a journey to rebuild and remodel his career. This saw him feature for the likes of IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and more.
Eventually, Rhodes also played a key role in the launch of AEW and served as an Executive Vice President during his spell there before opting to rejoin WWE.
Despite AEW playing a major role in Rhodes’ life and career, it appears that the company won’t be featured in the new documentary. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that footage from Being The Elite will be used, and several AEW talents were spoken to, but no footage of Rhodes in AEW will be shown.
“There was footage from BTE that Matt & Nick Jackson gave permission to use regarding the first All In show and signing contracts with AEW. There was no footage of Rhodes in AEW. We do know that several interviewed talked a lot about AEW but we don’t know how much will survive the editing process. But it would be impossible to tell a true story of Rhodes without it so I presume it will be covered and it will be interesting to see how it is covered.”
What Relationship Does Cody Rhodes Have With The Young Bucks?
Since Cody Rhodes left AEW, much has been made of his relationship — or potentially lack of– with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. However, at the premiere of the documentary, the man himself shed some light on the situation.
Rhodes said in an interview that he and the Bucks are “bonded for life” and still speak fairly regularly despite being on opposite sides of wrestling’s great divide.
