Ever since it was announced in 2020, fans have eagerly awaited All Elite Wrestling’s first foray into the video game world with AEW Fight Forever.
The game was originally scheduled to be released in September of 2022, but was pushed back to November and then to February 2023 before delays continued to mount.
Reasons for the setbacks have been linked to CM Punk’s involvement and, according to Kenny Omega, some of the game’s content had to be “scaled back” in order to meet the desired ESRB rating of Teen.
A THQ Nordic executive recently confirmed that the game is in good shape but isn’t yet finished, saying that all involved parties want to make sure to release a quality product.
AEW Fight Forever Set For June Release
A recent report from Fightful Select indicated that the game was expected to be released in June, around the time of the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Now, an update from Fightful Select reveals that the long-awaited game is set to be released on June 27th, two days after Forbidden Door.
The report also notes that AEW has the rights to the video game engine, meaning future releases of the game are possible. As of now, the working plan with game developer Yuke is that Fight Forever will be a one-off project with regular updates.
Sources indicated to Fightful that the game plays very smoothly, and that it resembles WWF No Mercy rather than games in the WWE 2K franchise. There are said to be some limitations when it comes to its create-a-wrestler feature, and as far as Fightful have heard, there are no plans in place for community creations.
Fightful was told that an official announcement about the release of Fight Forever will be coming next week.
