It’s AEW Dynamite featuring “Hangman” Adam Page facing Kyle Fletcher and a huge 8-man All-Star tag team match.
This week’s Dynamite took place at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, featuring Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone on commentary.
Match #1: All-Star 8-Man Tag Team Match: Ricochet, Kazuchika Okada, and The Young Bucks – Matthew & Nicholas Jackson defeated Kenny Omega, Mark Briscoe, “Speedball” Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight by pinfall. It was a long match that lasted nearly 30 minutes, accompanied by numerous “this is awesome” chants from the crowd. The fans went crazy when Okada faced off with Omega in the match. Omega hit a somersault dive over the top onto four guys and even the ones he didn’t touch took a bump. Mark hit a Death Valley Driver on Okada. Ricochet shoved Mark off the top rope and Okada hit a Rainmaker on Mark. The referee was looking away when Ricochet shoved Mark. Okada covered Mark for the win.
The Hurt Syndicate trio of AEW Tag Team Champions Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin, along with MVP, were backstage. They discussed MJF’s interest in joining the group, with MVP arguing that Max could be beneficial to them. If MJF screws them over, they will hurt him.
Match #2: The Opps – Katsuyori Shibata, Samoa Joe & Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Rhett Titus, Myles Hawkins & Nick Comoroto by pinfall. Hobbs hit a spinebuster to win the match.
After the match, The Death Riders attacked The Opps. Claudio Castagnoli slammed Shibata into a steel chair. Samoa Joe did a promo and told Jon Moxley that he wanted their World Title match to be a Steel Cage Match. That match is on May 14th.
The TBS Champion Mercedes Mone did a taped sitdown interview with Renee Paquette. Mone bragged about her greatness while noting she is 25-0 in singles matches in AEW. Mone credited Jamie Hayter for her talent but mocked her looks. Paquette plugged the Mone-Hayter match at AEW Double or Nothing as the finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Cup.
The Patriarchy group was interviewed backstage. Jay Lethal interrupted to challenge Nick Wayne for the ROH TV Title, as Nick is the youngest champion and Jay had held the title the longest. Nick didn’t seem interested in a match, but Christian Cage accepted the challenge for Nick. Cage told Nick to get his head in the game.
Match #3:“Timeless” Toni Storm defeated Miyu Yamashita by pinfall. Storm hit a Storm Zero to get the win. If Yamashita won, then she would get an AEW Women’s World Title match against Storm.
Mercedes Mone appeared after the match to tell Toni Storm that Mone is going to win the Women’s Owen Hart Cup at Double or Nothing and then go on to All In Texas to win Storm’s Women’s AEW World Title. Jamie Hayter interrupted and punched Mone in the mouth. Mone ran away. Storm did some dancing/swimming on the mat while Hayter’s music played, so the crowd was laughing at that.
Don Callis was with the Don Callis Family backstage. He discussed Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander winning last week over Will Ospreay and Brody King. This week, Kyle Fletcher will win and win the Owen Hart Cup at Double or Nothing.
It was time for the weekly promo segment with The Hurt Syndicate and Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF). MVP & Shelton Benjamin gave MJF a thumbs up, but Lashley gave him a thumbs down. MJF was frustrated after giving Lashley gifts, so Lashley told MJF that they hurt people. Lashley told MJF to hurt someone. MJF said that you made your point while MVP made Lashley let go of him. MVP got The Hurt Syndicate to leave. MJF was frustrated by it as the segment ended.
Match #4: ROH TV Championship – Nick Wayne defeated Jay Lethal by pinfall. Wayne won with an inverted Fisherman’s Buster to retain his title.
It was confirmed that in two weeks on AEW Dynamite Beach Break on May 14th, Jon Moxley will defend the AEW World Title against Samoa Joe in a Steel Cage match.
Who Won The AEW Dynamite Main Event?
The winner of the main event would go on to face Will Ospreay in the finals of the Men’s Owen Hart Cup.
Match #5: Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Semifinals: “Hangman” Adam Page defeated Kyle Fletcher. This was a long match that lasted about 25 minutes. Fletcher was trying to finish off Page with a brainbuster on the turnbuckle, but Page blocked it. Page clotheslined Fletcher with a lariat from the turnbuckle. Page hit a Buckshot Lariat after jumping off the top turnbuckle. Page connected with the Buckshot Lariat from the apron for the pinfall win.
That win by Page means he’ll face Will Ospreay at AEW Double Or Nothing. The winner of that match will win the Men’s Owen Hart Cup and get an AEW World Title match at All In Texas.
That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading.
