AEW Dynamite Draws Lowest Audience Since 2020

AEW Dynamite continues to struggle with its viewership.

As reported by Wrestlenomics, the May 15th episode of Dynamite drew an average audience of 672,000 viewers and obtained an 18-49 rating of 0.23. This the the lowest audience that the show has received in its regular Wednesday night timeslot since June 24th 2020. The show was down 5.5% in overall viewership compared to the previous week and down 4.2% in the key demographic rating with the previous low demo rating also coming from the June 2020 episode.

Dynamite went head-to-head with NBA and NHL playoffs on May 15th and has been competing against the two franchises for a number of weeks. In terms of year-on-year ratings, a concerning trend has developed where the show has gained fewer viewers than the same date in 2023 for the past 6 months.

What Happened On AEW Dynamite?

Continuing the build to Double or Nothing, the biggest news from the show concerned the Anarchy in the Arena match and the change in participants. With Eddie Kingston out of action after suffering a major injury at the NJPW Resurgence pay-per-view, FTR and Bryan Danielson needed a replacement. Following the main event of the show, The Elite launched an attack on Dax Harwood before Darby Allin made his shock return and was announced as the replacement in the Anarchy in the Arena match.

Also on the show, Malakai Black accepted Adam Copeland’s challenge and will face the TNT Champion in a barbed wire steel cage match at Double or Nothing with the title on the line. Dynamite also saw the return of Hook, who was confronted by Chris Jericho and Big Bill after his match. Following the events that took place in the post-match attack, Chris Jericho revealed that he would require stitches thanks to Hook.
