AEW is less than one month from its third annual All In pay-per-view. Tony Khan is taking his biggest event to Texas this year after running London for the first two, and now there are surprising and unfortunate updates from backstage on a major storyline between multi-time World Champions. Officials are still planning what will surely be one of AEW’s biggest programs ever.
Edge and Christian began their pro wrestling journeys as teenagers in Canada and made it to the top of the pro wrestling world with WWE. The legendary grapplers are now with Tony Khan’s AEW, and since Adam Copeland joined AEW in August 2023, he and Captain Charisma have fought four bloody battles for the TNT Championship, with two wins each.
Cope returned from a lengthy injury hiatus at the end of 2024, forming Rated FTR with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. The tag team turned on Cope at Dynasty in April, putting him back on the shelf. It was not confirmed that the 51-year-old is suffering from a legitimate injury, but there’s talk of Cope just taking more time to rest, as he’s been planned for All In the whole time. This came amid well-received rumors of Tony Khan planning a major babyface reunion of Edge and Christian.
AEW All In Was To Feature Edge And Christian Reunion
AEW had plans to feature the reunion of WWE’s Edge and Christian this summer, as rumored earlier this year. Fightful Select adds that the “major creative plans” were booked for FTR after they turned heel on Cope at Dynasty.
Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler were in line for a continued push, and not long after the creative decision was made, word came down that plans were also in place to eventually reunite Cope and Cage on-screen. The reunion was likely for a program at All In: Texas.
Cope was originally scheduled to return to the AEW storylines by now. Sources report that the WWE Hall of Famer was set to be back by now, with talk of the hiatus ending at Double Or Nothing to officially begin the feud for All In. Christian’s ongoing program with The Patriarchy forced the delay, as there was a feeling that Christian wasn’t ready to wrap the faction storyline. The decision was then made to slow the creative down.
The Patriarchy has taken a few twists and turns in recent months. Word from backstage is that Cage wants to “see things through creatively” with Nick Wayne due to the time and resources put into the storyline. Wayne has been ROH World Television Champion for 67 days.
It remains to be seen if the Cope and Christian reunion will actually happen at this point. Regarding FTR, officials considered a big 2024 heel turn against The Outrunners. However, it was decided that the heel turn on Cope would be the better angle.
