AEW Collision: NJPW Legend Makes Shocking Return; Attacks Top Champion

AEW Collision had a huge surprise

Japanese wrestling veteran and NJPW legend is back in AEW.

Since his last All Elite Wrestling match in November 2023, Kota Ibushi has remained absent from in-ring action at the Jacksonville-based promotion. Last year in January, Ibushi suffered multiple injuries while competing against Naomichi Marufuji for Pro Wrestling NOAH.

Recovered from his multiple injuries and surgeries, Ibushi returned later that year and competed under multiple independent promotions with his latest match being on 15th February 2025 at the Maya Yukihi 10th Anniversary ~ Back Then, Now And In The Future.

However, breaking the drought, Kota Ibushi recently returned to All Elite Wrestling on the June 21 episode of Collision as Kenny Omega’s new ally. A few weeks ago, Kazuchika Okada had brutally attacked Kenny Omega, leaving him defenseless. Kazuchika Okada, newly partnered with Don Caliis, launched a verbal attack on Omega, who lacked support in his corner, leading to the return of one half of ‘The Golden Lovers’.

Omega and Ibushi are widely known all across the pro-wrestling industry as the popular tag-team ‘The Golden Lovers’ and for their powerful chemistry. With Ibushi and Mark Briscoe in his corner, Kazuchika Okada will now come face-to-face against a confident Kenny Omega at All In 2025 for their title unification match.

AEW Star Kota Ibushi Once Provided A Worrying Update On His Wrestling Future

Last year in December, while speaking to Tokyo Sports, Kota Ibushi provided a worrying update on his in-ring future.

“My legs are at their limit and it could end at any time. I wanted to keep going before I can’t do it anymore, so I decided to compete today. I’m really at the limit, but I want to contribute to the world of professional wrestling before I end my career, so I’m currently appearing in various places.”

In other news: Harley Cameron has undergone a successful surgery.
