A current champion in AEW is the latest to have suffered an injury.
The opening match of the April 9th episode of Dynamite saw Swerve Strickland take on PAC, who is one-third of the Trios Champions with Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.
The match went just over 4 minutes and was ended early due to a concerning spot that took place early in the match. Strickland hit PAC with the buckle bomb that saw the British wrestler immediately favour his right ankle/foot. Shortly afterwards, the Trios Champion rolled out of the ring and was checked on by medical staff. The spot where the injury seemingly occurred and the pause in the match have been edited out of the YouTube clip.
The Trios Champion was still able to finish the match as he rolled back into the ring and was hit with a Swerve Stomp by Strickland that led to the former World Champion picking up the victory.
As reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, PAC suffered a legitimate injury to his foot or ankle in the match and had to be helped to the back afterwards. There are no further details as to the severity or if surgery will be required.
Later in the show, Castagnoli and Yuta were in action against Samoa Joe and Hook with The Opps picking up the win. Yuta was attacked by Castagnoli, Yuta and Marina Shafir after the match but their trios tag team partner did not make an appearance in the closing angle.
Following the attack on Hook, Samoa Joe grabbed a mic and stated that The Opps would be coming after the Trios Titles. However, with one-third of the champions injured, it is currently unknown how this will affect the titles.
