This current AEW Champion is not shying away from a challenge.
A few weeks ago, Kyle Fletcher defeated Dustin Rhodes in a critically acclaimed match to crown himself the new TNT Champion.
In his first-ever title reign at the promotion, Fletcher has already impressed his critics and is arguably on the run of his career. From his time as Will Ospreay’s ally to a prominent heel on the roster, Fletcher has come a long way.
Tonight, following his successful title defense against Tomohiro Ishii on the August 9th episode of Collision, Fletcher issued an open challenge to the Japanese wrestling promotion, NJPW.
Soon, Don Callis followed it up with a backstage segment while wearing an NJPW necktie. Callis asked NJPW to send their best and Fletcher’s challenger to the upcoming episode of Dynamite next week.
While no opponent has been fixed yet, fans can now be assured that Fletcher is set to be at the event and even defend his championship.
Just minutes after the bout concluded, Fightful Select reported that Fletcher recently signed a ‘big money’ contract with the promotion. The deal also positions Fletcher as a big player in the Jacksonville-based promotion moving forward.
Kyle Fletcher Reflects On His Past WWE Contract Before Joining AEW
“Kind of mind-blowing. Coming up and being a fan of WWE, just the fact that they were like, ‘We want to talk to you and get on a Zoom call with you.’ It was weird to let that sink in. ‘Ah, okay, I guess I’m a real wrestler now.’”
