A notable name in AEW has looked back at the many head-to-head battles Dynamite had with NXT and how it was fun to see who would come out on top.
In September 2019, NXT made the move from being an exclusive show on the WWE Network to being broadcast live on the USA Network for 2 hours every Wednesday night. Two weeks later Dynamite would air its debut show on TNT, facilitating two wrestling shows airing at the same time.
Both shows would for the most part run simultaneously until April 2021 when WWE made the decision to move NXT to Tuesday nights and has remained the home of the third brand ever since. While fans of both shows welcomed the move as it has been easier to keep track of what is going on, Tag Team Champion Matt Jackson admits it was fun being in direct competition with NXT.
Jackson is in luck as a rare head-to-head has been scheduled once more on October 8th when Dynamite will be moved to Tuesday for one night only. Already announced for the NXT show taking place the same night is Randy Orton in action and North American Champion Oba Femi putting the title on the line.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso for Undisputed, Jackson said that he views it as a compliment when WWE loads up their cards when it goes head to head with Dynamite, adding that competition makes everyone better:
“Absolutely,” said Jackson. “Competition breeds excellence. One thing I actually kind of miss is when we’d battle it out weekly on Wednesday nights. It was exciting, seeing who would have the better night. It makes you feel more alive.”
AEW Star Hypes Return Match
On September 25th, AEW will present Grand Slam for the 4th consecutive year. Billed as a mini-PPV, multiple title matches will take place including The Young Bucks putting the Tag Team Championships on the line against Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher. In addition to this, Nigel McGuinness looks set to make his return to the ring against long-time rival Bryan Danielson. When discussing the match, Nigel McGuinness compared it to another sporting battle.
Also in the interview, Jackson stated that Will Ospreay is the best wrestler on the planet.
