According to a new report AEW has offered budget cuts as a reason for not offering one of their stars a new contract.

Wrestling fans have become used to hearing the term budget cuts over the past two years as WWE has repeatedly used this as the reason for their series of swingeing cuts that decimated their roster throughout 2020 and 2021.

Now that same reason has been cited by AEW as they told Marko Stunt that was among the reasons he was not going to be offered a new contract by the company, according to a new report on Fightful Select.

The report also states that Stunt’s contract with the company is due to expire in May and Head Of Talent Relations Christopher Daniels was the one who told Marko Stunt that budget cuts and that the company was dealing with a large roster were the reason that his deal wasn’t being renewed.

Christopher Daniels is also said to have mentioned that plans had changed for current AEW Tag Team Champions Jurassic Express – the team Stunt used to be associated with on AEW television. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus are now frequently accompanied by Christian Cage to the ring for their matches.

Marko Stunt has not been seen on AEW television in six months and had sustained a concussion in October. The report adds that Stunt had attempted to get booked by the company to prove himself worthy of a new deal. The parting between AEW is said to be amicable with the conversation between Daniels and Stunt going well.
