AEW Botches New Trademark?

AEW boss Tony Khan Ring of Honor

On the February 22nd edition of AEW Dynamite Tony Khan will be making an important announcement.

Little is known about what Khan is set to announce, although it’s unlikely to be the signing of Ariel Helwani. Some fans have speculated that the big reveal could be the launch of a new television show or event. This particular thread of speculation gathered extra pace after Tony Khan admitted that AEW’s pay-per-view schedule isn’t set in stone and could change in the future.

However, AEW might have botched these plans before they even got off the ground.

A new filing to the USPTO stated that Tony Khan’s company was filing a trademark for “AEW COLLISON.” Eagle-eyed fans will notice that if the company is trying to trademark “AEW COLLISION,” they have spelled the name wrong in the filing missing out the second “I.” The trademark is for:

“Educational and entertainment services, namely, a continuing program about wrestling accessible by radio, television, satellite, audio, video and computer networks; Entertainment services in the nature of live wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and events;

“Entertainment services, namely, an ongoing multimedia program featuring wrestling distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; Entertainment services, namely, an ongoing series featuring wrestling provided through television and the internet; Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of wrestling”

Tony Khan Has A Very Public Spat With Ariel Helwani

Tony Khan was all over the news at the weekend due to his war of words with journalist Ariel Helwani. Khan took issue with Helwani appearing on SmackDown, branding him a fraud. The journalist and media personality then hit back calling Khan “The snowman.” WWE even got in on the action during Elimination Chamber throwing a few jabs the way of the AEW President while they featured Helwani on the show.

The spat appears to stem from an interview in late 2022. After Helwani had Khan on his show the MMA Hour, he was critical of the AEW boss for refusing to answer a number of questions.
