All Elite Wrestling has announced when the tournament to crown new Tag Team Champions will begin.
At AEW Revolution, Sting’s final match saw him and Darby Allin defend the Tag Team Titles against The Young Bucks. Both teams gave it their all with bodies, tables, and glass flying everywhere from the start. In the end, though, Sting ended his career on a high by forcing Matt Jackson to submit to the Scorpion Death Lock.
While a historic moment, Sting retiring as champion left a problem for All Elite Wrestling as the star vacated his title after the match. This was quickly resolved as the company announced on the following Dynamite there would be a tournament to name new Tag Team Champions.
On the March 9th edition of Collision, it was revealed that the tournament would begin on the March 16th episode of the show and the field has already begun to take shape.
On March 16th, the tournament started with an upset as The House of Black fell to a shocking defeat against The Infantry, who will go on to face FTR.
FTR Will Be Part Of AEW Tag Team Title Tournament
During Collision, FTR came to the ring to announce their intention to enter the tournament and become three-time Tag Team Champions. The pair were quickly interrupted by Captain Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo of The Infantry, who made a dig at FTR’s old WWE name when they claimed they want to give the tournament a “Revival.” Dax Harwood told them The Revival was dead, and The Infantry would be too if they meet in the tournament.
The two teams join The Young Bucks, and Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy, who already announced their own entries on Dynamite. Darby Allin won’t be part of the tournament as he is taking a hiatus to climb Mount Everest.
