A commentator in AEW has no interest in watching the new docuseries Who Killed WCW? which is produced by The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions.
The latest series to focus on the rise and fall of WCW premiered on June 4th and saw new interviews with Eric Bischoff, Goldberg and Bret Hart among other WCW legends who lived through the ups and downs of the promotion. One name who was a major part of WCW was announcer Tony Schiavone, who has since gone on to call the action in AEW. Although Schiavone has also experienced the events that took place in WCW first-hand, he will not be watching the new series.
Asked about Who Killed WCW? on his What Happened When podcast, Schiavone let his feelings be known:
“I have watched some of the ‘Dark Side of the Ring,’ but I won’t watch that. Because I know what it is — it’s a hatchet job.”
Continuing, the AEW announcer added that when he had previously watched Dark Side of the Ring he was not a fan of the interviews given by the talking heads:
“I see these people talking to the camera in ‘Dark Side of the Ring,’ and I’m going, ‘What are we doing? Have some freaking respect for the business that paid you a lot of money.”
Schiavone also expressed his dislike of producers Evan Husney and Jason Eisener, adding that he had been previously contacted to be a part of the Tales From The Territories series but declined. One specific example Schiavone brought up was how Tommy Dreamer’s comments in the Plane Ride From Hell episode were placed into the episode, stating that Dreamer’s comments were wrong but were also poorly placed:
“To me, that tells me all I need to know about those producers, and that’s my problem with it, and that’s the only thing,”
How The Rock Became Involved In WCW Project
Although the Hollywood star is a former WCW World Heavyweight Champion, he never appeared on WCW programming and stayed loyal to WWE following his debut in 1996. Ahead of the show’s premiere, Who Killed WCW creator Evan Husney explained how The Rock became involved in the project.
