The first Battle of the Belts show was held in Charlotte, North Carolina and was headlined by Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes. On the night it was Guevara who emerged victorious claiming the Interim TNT Championship in the process.
The Spanish God had been due to face TNT Champion Cody Rhodes at the event, but the American Nightmare had to pull out, later revealing that he was in quarantine, due to a family member testing positive for COVID-19.
On the January 26th episode of Dynamite, Rhodes and Guevara met in a Ladder Match to crown an undisputed Champion. A match that was eventually won by Guevara.
It now appears that the contest will be Rhodes’ last in AEW after it was confirmed that he and his wife Brandi are leaving the promotion. It has since been reported that the Rhodes camp have held talks with WWE.
