According to a new report, former AEW World Champion Adam Page is set for a huge showdown with Kazuchika Okada at Forbidden Door.
UPDATE: Dave Meltzer has since retracted this report, claiming the match has not been planned for Forbidden Door as the line-up remains a secret.
At Double or Nothing Hangman Adam Page was defeated by CM Punk, losing his prized AEW World Championship in the process. However, it appears that despite the loss, Page is set for big things at AEW’s next pay-per-view, it’s joint promotion with New Japan Pro Wrestling on June 26th.
Speaking on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Page is listed internally for a bout against Kazuchika Okada.
“I had seen a line-up, which was interesting because it was Punk and Tanahashi for the AEW title and the other match was Okada and Adam Page, which actually could be a hell of a match for the IWGP title,” Meltzer said. “I don’t know if that will happen, change, or whatever, and then the rest of the show is probably a lot of tag matches between factions on each side.”
At time of writing there has been no official announcement regarding the bout.
To date only one match has been confirmed for the Super-Show in Chicago, and that will see CM Punk take on Hiroshi Tanahashi.
After teaming with FTR to defeat Max Caster and the Gunn Club on Dynamite, the new AEW World Champion laid down a challenge to anyone in New Japan to come and face him. Punk didn’t have to wait long to get a response as Tanahashi made his way onto the stage accompanied by a huge ovation.
The announcement came after Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan of the United Empire interrupted the show the week before attacking FTR, Rocky Romero and Trent.
