It has been announced that Hangman Adam Page will defend the AEW World Championship against Adam Cole at AEW Revolution.
The rivalry between Adam Page and Adam Cole may have been simmering for a number of weeks, but it will come to the boil on March 6th at AEW Revolution.
Adam Cole has risen to the top of the AEW rankings after remaining unbeaten in official singles matches since signing with the company in September. His only singles defeat came against Orange Cassidy in an Unsanctioned Lights Out match back in January, meaning the loss doesn’t appear on his record.
Hangman Adam Page was most recently in action on the February 9th episode of AEW Dynamite. On that occasion, he defeated Lance Archer in a blood-soaked Texas Death Match. After the bout, a battered but not defeated Hangman was confronted by Adam Cole.
The following week on February 16th, the two men went face to face, as they both attempted to assert their dominance over the other with the microphone. As Cole left the ring, his partners Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish attacked the champion from behind. Cole quickly returned to the ring to put an exclamation point on the beating.
On the February 16th episode of Dynamite it was also revealed that CM Punk will meet MJF in a Dog Collar Match at Revolution, only the second such match in company history.
Punk had earned himself a rematch with MJF after joining forces with Jon Moxley to defeat FTR the previous week. Sitting crossed legged in the middle of the ring, Punk first set the date for revolution. He continued by commenting on his rivals references to “Roddy Piper in Portland,” before adding that if MJF wants to be Piper so bad, he’ll be his Valentine. At this he pulled out a dog collar from a box he had in the ring.
The promo was of course in reference to the legendary Dog Collar Match between Roddy Piper and Greg Valentine in the 1980’s.
