Adam Copeland Compares One AEW Star To Terry Funk & Roddy Piper

Adam Copeland cuts a promo in AEW

Adam Copeland opened up about his current feud with AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.

On December 28th, The Rated R Superstar made his return to AEW for the first time since suffering a serious injury at Double or Nothing in May. Adam Copeland confronted Jon Moxley after the main event of Worlds End, making it clear that he’s coming for the AEW World Championship.

Speaking in a new interview with The Takedown on SI, Adam Copeland spoke about his role in the company following his return, making it clear that he’s willing to do whatever helps programming as a whole.

“I still get amped up. I still get excited when I think about [pro wrestling]. So for me, just the idea of doing that, getting that match, seeing that on a marquee, Cope vs. Mox, to me that’s one that needed to happen.

You can go, should we do it here? Should we do it here? Should we do it here? It’s like, I’m coming back, that’s the time to do this and get this going and tell that story.

I’ve always said I’m a designated hitter. Where do you need me? Okay, right now we’re moving into Max. You want a recognizable face? Got it. Okay, you need me for this right now. Well, then let’s do me and Mox right now then. That’s how I look at things, more so than I gotta go from this story, to this story, to this story. Where are we as a company? Where do you need me? You need my face here, for right now, coming off an Emmy nomination, all those things. I get it. Cool. Put me here. Let’s go.”

“This’ll Be Uglier In All The Ways That I Love” – Adam Copeland On Feud With Jon Moxley

Continuing, Adam Copeland spoke about Jon Moxley directly, comparing him to some of professional wrestling’s most notable names.

“I think this’ll be uglier in all the ways that I love. [Moxley] reminds me a little bit of Terry Funk. He’s got a little Roddy Piper to him. He’s got that throwback feel, but with a modern take. That to me is really exciting. I’d love to just get in there and just have it be a gnarly fight. A hard hitting heavyweight match between two dudes who are over 230 pounds and are just gonna take each other’s heads off. That sounds like a good night.”
