Current AEW star Adam Cole has revealed the depths of conversations that took place between him, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels about joining WWE’s main roster.
For four years between 2017 and 2021, Adam Cole became the beating heart of NXT as the crown jewel of the Undisputed ERA group. During his time on the black and gold brand, Cole won every championship it had to offer before seeing out his WWE contract and becoming All Elite in September 2021.
Cole recently joined WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle on The Kurt Angle Show where he discussed what, if any, discussions took place between himself and NXT bosses Triple H and Shawn Michaels about joining the WWE main roster:
“So I still to this day keep in conversation or keep in touch with both of them [HHH and HBK] and a lot of it is just like a personal like, ‘hey, how are you, thinking of you, wishing you the best,’ that type of thing. But there wasn’t a huge discussion from either of them about, okay, going to Raw or Smackdown and not as in like, it was an uncomfortable thing to talk about.”
“But I guess the way I’ll put it is there really was a core group of guys within NXT. That was so laser-focused on that one thing – making NXT special – that I think they knew, and they themselves weren’t even thinking about it.”
“I think also, especially with NXT, trying to be this new show on Wednesdays, they probably would have been nervous or scared of the idea of like, ‘oh my God, okay, they just took four of our top NXT stars,’ now what are we going to do? But we also felt that way as well, where we just were focused on the show.”
Adam Cole recently competed for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Forbidden Door, a match that has led to Cole seemingly suffering a serious injury.
