Adam Cole has wrestled a wide array of talent during his short AEW career thus far, but he’s specifically praised Christian Cage as an in-ring genius.
Debuting for All Elite Wrestling at the tail-end of their 2021 All Out pay-per-view, Adam Cole instantly became one of the company’s top stars. The former NXT Champion has since reunited with fellow black-and-gold brand alum Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly, with the trio dominating AEW programming alongside The Young Bucks.
Cole has faced a range of major AEW talents, including challenging former Bullet Club stablemate Adam Page for the AEW World Championship. On four occasions, however, Adam Cole has shared the ring with Christian Cage, including a singles match between the pair that aired on the 6 April Dynamite broadcast. A former World Heavyweight Champion, Christian is believed by many – Adam Cole included – to be an in-ring genius.
Appearing on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio ahead of last night’s (11 May) Dynamite episode, Adam Cole covered a range of topics, including discussing the various veteran talents in the AEW locker room (h/t Wrestling Inc.):
“First of all, everyone mentioned, whether it be Jericho, Punk, Bryan, Christian – they are all incredibly accessible to the younger talent, and to people who want to learn, which I think is really cool. Again, to have that knowledge that they do, and not let it go to waste in a sense of, aside from them themselves being incredible, being able to pass it on to another generation has been really, really cool.
I got to work pretty extensively with Christian, which was really cool. Like, I had a singles match against him. It was on my fourteen-year wrestling anniversary, which I thought was really cool. Just again, it’s not even something necessarily where he just sits down and is like, ‘yeah, OK. This is why we’re doing this.’ It’s almost like learning just from working with him, and where he places things, and why he puts it here versus here.
Everything they say about Christian being a wrestling genius is true. He’s so, so smart and a joy to work with, as a lot of these guys are.”
Adam Cole would defeat Christian Cage in their singles bout and is currently 2-1 up on Christian in their multi-man encounters. Cage’s only win over Cole came at Full Gear 2021, as he, Jungle Boy, and Luchasaurus defeated Cole and The Young Bucks in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
Cole recently defeated FTR’s Dax Harwood to advance to the final four of the men’s bracket for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. He’ll meet Jeff Hardy in the semifinals of the tournament, with the finals currently scheduled for Double or Nothing.
