Adam Cole Opens Up About WWE Exit

Shayna Baszler Adam Cole Triple H NXT

After finding success on the independent circuit with the likes of Ring of Honor, Adam Cole signed with WWE in 2017.

Cole made his NXT debut at TakeOver: Brooklyn III alongside Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly as the Undisputed Era, attacking new NXT Champion Drew McIntyre. Over the next four years Cole won everything there was to win on the ‘Black and Gold brand’ becoming the second NXT Triple Crown Champion. However, despite this glittering run the star never seemed to come close to a call-up to the main roster and let his contract with the company expire.

Cole made his final WWE appearance at NXT TakeOver: 36 and in August 2021, losing out to Kyle O’Reilly in a “2-out-of-3 Falls Match.” However, fans didn’t have to wait long to see the star back in action again as he debuted with AEW just a month later at All Out.

Why Did Adam Cole Leave WWE?

Speaking during an appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio, Cole reflected on his time with WWE and why he decided to leave.

“I had a wonderful experience working in NXT with Triple H and Shawn Micheals,” he said. “I learned so much from them and it was an absolute joy to be there. All the coaches, everyone. I learned a lot being there and grew as a performer. And then looking at AEW, once again, Britt being there was a huge factor, my friends being there was a huge factor, the audience being so rabid and so wild. Every single week looked so exciting and [it was] something I wanted to be involved in.”

During the conversation, Cole also discussed his injury-hit 2022. The former NXT Champion spoke candidly about his concussion issues, revealing that he couldn’t remember the match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door where he sustained his second head injury.
