New IMPACT X Division Champion Ace Austin has commented on being compared with current WWE Superstar AJ Styles.
Styles famously appeared in IMPACT when it was known as TNA, from 2002 until 2014. During that time the ‘Phenomenal One’ won pretty much every championship that there was to win, including becoming the company’s first ever Grand Slam champion, while also winning the X Division title on six occasions.
Speaking in a new interview with Sports Illustrated IMPACT’s current star Ace Austin, was asked whether he found the comparisons with Styles overwhelming.
“I’m constantly compared to AJ Styles, and I’m compared to the best because I am the best. But it’s like your earlier question. I’m compared to him, but I am not in his shadow. I’m creating something special my own way.”
Ace Austin debuted in IMPACT Wrestling back in March 2019, and has wasted no time in crafting an impressive resume, winning the Super X Cup as well as the X Division title.
At IMPACT Sacrifice Austin became X Division Champion for the second time overcoming TJP in the process. Austin first won the championship at Bound For Glory 2019, enjoying a reign lasting 170 days, before being defeated by Willie Mack at the 2020 edition of Rebellion.
