At a press conference today, Mexican powerhouse promotion AAA announced an expansive link up with Marvel Latin America.
The Lucha Libre giant will be introducing several new wrestlers inspired by popular Marvel characters over the coming months, the first wave of which are slated to debut at the promotion’s TripleMania supershow in December.
The new characters, whom had been innocuously revealed in Funko Pop form earlier in the year, were confirmed as the following:
- Aracno
- Leyenda Americana
- Terror Púrpura
- Venenoide
The Spider Man themed Aracno and Captain America inspired Leyenda Americana are both set to be technicos, or babyfaces.
On the rudos, or heel, side, Terror Púrpura will bare resemblance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘big bad’ Thanos, with Venenoide an homage to Spider Man counterpart Venom.
In the original Funko Pop release, there also appeared to be new characters based on The Incredible Hulk, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Deadpool and Wolverine.
As per Lucha Libre culture, there is no word on which wrestlers will don the respective masks.
In addition, Marvel have also confirmed the launch of new storytelling content, clothing, accessories and other products inspired by Lucha Libre.
