JC Mateo immediately became one of the biggest threats in WWE when he debuted on SmackDown earlier this year. The veteran pro wrestler has been busy making his mark after going straight to the main roster, and now the Stamford-based promotion has given him a certain gimmick upgrade.
Jeff Cobb wrestled professionally for around 16 years before WWE came calling this past spring. A former amateur wrestler for Guam in the 2004 Summer Olympics, Cobb became JC Mateo when he debuted as part of The Bloodline’s ongoing saga at Backlash on May 10 of this year. The heel made his in-ring debut six days later, defeating LA Knight in a 15-minute SmackDown showdown.
The Hawaiian Juggernaut is currently a member of The MFTs with Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Talla Tonga. WWE finally revealed Mateo’s official profile page on the company website today. The bio touched on Jeff Cobb’s impressive pre-WWE career, touting that the 5-time champion in NJPW had nothing left to conquer but the world’s largest wrestling promotion.
JC Mateo is in WWE for one reason: destruction. After an incredibly successful amateur wrestling career that saw him represent Guam in the Olympics, Mateo dominated the professional wrestling scene in Japan, Mexico and everywhere else he chose to invade. With just WWE left to conquer, Mateo arrived in grand fashion as he destroyed LA Knight at Backlash and aligned with Solo Sikoa, giving The MFTs another soldier in their quest for dominance. Mateo’s blend of athleticism and pure power makes him a deadly asset for Sikoa, and as long as the Hawaiian Superstar stands with Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa and Talla Tonga, The MFTs have never been more dangerous,” reads JC Mateo’s official bio.
JC Mateo Makes WWE Mexico Debut
WWE just returned from putting on two non-televised SuperShow live events in Mexico City and Monterrey. JC Mateo was among those making their Mexico debuts for the Stamford-based promotion this past weekend.
Saturday’s show at Arena Mexico in the nation’s capital saw JC Mateo, Solo Sikoa, and Tonga Loa team up for a loss to Cody Rhodes, Jimmy Uso, and Jacob Fatu. The MFTs, who were seen protecting Tiffany Stratton at the airport in a viral moment, lost the 6-Man Tag Team Match to the SmackDown babyfaces the next night at Arena Monterrey.
The MFTs worked similar matches on July 19 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and the next night in Edinburg, TX. The live events saw Sikoa, JC Mateo, and Loa lose to Rhodes, Fatu, and Randy Orton instead of Big Jim.
