56-Year-Old AEW Legend Gives Health Update After Career-Saving Surgery

AEW fans pack the stadium for All In: Texas

AEW is home to several wrestling legends, including those that work behind-the-scenes and those who are still doing battle in the ring. A well-respected veteran and multi-time champion for Tony Khan has just checked in with fans, providing a graphic new photo and health update.

Dustin Rhodes was riding high when he was forced to go on hiatus for a double knee replacement operation. The wrestling legend dropped the AEW TNT Championship to Kyle Fletcher in a Collision Chicago Street Fight at the end of July, ending his first All Elite championship reign at 19 days.

The Natural made a post-match announcement to reveal the need for surgery, adding that he will be on the shelf indefinitely. This ended Rhodes’ ROH World Tag Team Championship reign with Sammy Guevara at 377 days, and ended his run with The Von Erichs as ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions at 398 days.

Rhodes later updated fans on his health issues, and his career. As he began the road to recovery and a goal of winning the AEW World Championship, the 56-year-old was clear that his in-ring career is not over.

AEW-ROH Star Dustin Rhodes Provides Update Two Weeks After Surgery

Dustin Rhodes underwent a successful double knee replacement surgery on Thursday, August 21. Going into the operation, the former Goldust of WWE was expected to be out of action until some time in 2026.

The Natural took to X today with a two-week post-surgery update. Rhodes expressed how bad both knees have been over the past five years with AEW, noting that he’s looking forward to a slow and methodical rehab. He also thanked fans for their support, and gave a shout-out to God.

“Today marks 2 wks since surgury. Don’t really know how I was doing it these last 5 yrs. Knees were destroyed. Dressing off finally. I look forward to a slow and methodical rehab. Slow and steady. Thank yall for all of your support and prayers. God has it under control. [sign of the horns emoji] [red heart emoji] #KeepSteppin #DoubleKneeReplacements,” wrote Dustin Rhodes with the photo below.

Sammy Guevara joined LFI and chose Rush as his tag team partner to defeat The Outrunners for the vacant ROH World Tag Team Championship at Death Before Dishonor last Friday night. The same PPV saw Shane Taylor Promotions defeat Guevara and The Von Erichs to win the vacant ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.
