5-Year WWE Streak Broken At SummerSlam

5-Year WWE Streak Broken At SummerSlam

WWE SummerSlam 2024 brought a streak that began in 2019 to an end.

The company recently hosted The Biggest Party of the Summer in Cleveland, Ohio on August 3rd and got the wrestling world talking with the newsworthy show that opened with the shocking Dominik Mysterio betrayal of Rhea Ripley and was closed out with the long-awaited return of Roman Reigns.

In addition to the newsworthy moments, the results also generated headlines with 4 title changes taking place at SummerSlam. As a result of one particular championship changing hands, a 5-year run has come to a close.

As noted by social media account Wrestle Stats & Info, Logan Paul’s US Title loss to LA Knight now means that every champion in the company, both main roster and NXT, began their title reign this year. The account notes that the last time this happened was in the closing weeks of 2019.

For those wondering, the title change in question that rounded out 2019 was when Rhea Ripley defeated Shayna Baszler on the December 18th episode of NXT to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.

Other titles that changed hands in Cleveland were the Intercontinental Championship [Bron Breakker defeated Sami Zayn], the Women’s Championship [Nia Jax defeated Bayley] and the World Heavyweight Championship [Gunther defeated Damian Priest].

WWE Builds To Next Premium Live Event

Along with the fallout from SummerSlam being the main focus of the August 5th edition of Raw, the company also began the build to Bash in Berlin, which will take place on August 31st in Germany. Following on from his World Heavyweight Championship victory at SummerSlam, Gunther found out who his first challenger would be at the upcoming event.

In recent news, the SummerSlam 2024 event broke a U.S. record for the PLE.
