Five more names have been added into the tumbler for the 2022 Royal Rumble as WWE Superstars gear up for the beginning of the Road to WrestleMania.
For over 30 years the Royal Rumble has been a cornerstone of WWE and the 30-person over the top rope extravaganzas have become one of the most popular matches in pro wrestling history.
In 1993, Yokozuna used his win at the Royal Rumble to propel himself to the main event of WrestleMania 9 where he defeated Bret Hart for the richest prize in wrestling, the WWE Championship. This began an annual tradition that raised the stakes of the Royal Rumble match even higher.
On the first Raw of 2022, five names were added into the pot for the men’s Rumble match which is due to take place on the 30th of January. These names will join the unlikely contender joining the field to claim a spot in the main event of WrestleMania 38, Jackass star Johnny Knoxville.
Four of the five names that declared for the Royal Rumble match will give the bout a tag team flavour as Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford of The Street Profits as well as Dominik and Rey Mysterio announced their intention to enter the Rumble.
Rey Mysterio has previous in the Royal Rumble as he won the 2006 edition, lasting over an hour to claim his spot in the World Championship match at WrestleMania 22, where he ultimately became World Champion.
Those four men will be joined by Austin Theory after his place in the Rumble was confirmed on Raw by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
No WWE Superstars have yet declared their entry for the women’s Rumble match and with only 20 women currently listed on wwe.com on Raw and SmackDown, expect some surprises in that match.
