A WWE record that has stood for 36 years has finally been broken.
WWE records are a thing of much fanfare, as most records that have been set in previous eras are aimed at being broken by various stars. For example, Roman Reigns broke a few records en route to his 1316-day reign as Universal Champion. Similarly, Gunther also broke Hony Tonk Man’s long-standing 453-day record for the title. The Ring General held the title for 666 days before losing it to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40.
Several other records have also come and gone in the company, and it doesn’t even consider the crowd records and gate records that the company claims to break every second PLE. Now, a 36-year-old record has been broken in the promotion.
WWE Broken A Massive Record On NXT
The latest edition of WWE NXT saw a Flag Match take place between Tavion Heights and Ethan Page. The stars were part of the first Flag Match in 21 years, with the last one taking place between The Hurricane and Rosey in 2004.
The episode saw Heights triumph over the former AEW star and the current NXT North American Champion. Not only was the match historic, but the outcome was historic as well, with Heights (USA) and Ethan Page (Canada) setting themselves in the record books. The match saw an American defeat a Canadian in a Flag Match for the first time since 1989, 36 years ago.
The last time this happened was when Jim Duggan defeated Dino Bravo. The information comes to you via Wrestling Statcast on X/Twitter.
This was the first 🇺🇸 vs. 🇨🇦 Flag Match in @WWE since La Resistance vs. @ShaneHelmsCom & Rosey in 2004.

Page has sided himself with Chelsea Green on WWE NXT and has taken his heelish antics to the next level. Both stars have constantly demeaned the USA and its flag and have stated that Canada was the better country. This ultimately led to the Flag Match being set after 21 years. Rumors also have it that Ethan Page’s time on NXT could be coming to an end soon, as he may be moved to the main roster with Green vocally pushing for it.
