A Former WWE 24/7 Champion made their AEW Debut at Dark: Elevation Taping.
According to PWInsider, former WWE star Mascara Dorada (formerly known as Gran Metalik) defeated Serpentico at the taping on September 14.
Dorada made his debut for WWE back in 2016, as a part of the critically acclaimed Cruiserweight Classic tournament. The Mexican star picked up a surprising victory over the tournament favourite Zack Sabre Jr in the semi-final, but would lose to TJ Perkins in the final.
Dorada would then began working in the newly introduced cruiserweight division, appearing on Monday Night Raw. On the September 19 episode of Raw, he worked his first match on the main roster, competing in a Fatal Four-Way Match, also involving Cedric Alexander, Rich Swann, and The Brian Kendrick to determine the number one contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at Clash of Champions, which Kendrick won.
In early 2018, the then Metalik would form a faction with fellow luchadores Kalisto and Lince Dorado, called the “Lucha House Party”. While the trio originally debuted on 205 Live, they would soon transition to the main roster where they would see themselves getting drafted to both Raw and Smackdown in the subsequent years to come. WWE would eventually release Dorada on November 4, 2021, as part of their budget cuts.
After his release the former four-time CMLL World Welterweight Champion wrestled mostly on the Mexican independent circuit along with multiple appearances for Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) in America.
Prior to signing with WWE, Dorada wrestled for Mexico’s CMLL, and would also make occasional appearances for New Japan Pro Wrestling. He would eventually sign a short-term deal with the Japanese promotion in 2016 which led to him challenging Kenny Omega for the IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship at Invasion Attack 2015, but was defeated by Omega in what was a fantastic bout.
