Following AJ Lee’s WWE return, Triple H should begin to work on bringing back a former multi-time champion.
Fans have speculated an AJ Lee return since CM Punk returned to WWE in 2023. Finally, on the September 5 episode of SmackDown, the rumors came true, and the former Divas Champion came back after more than a decade away from being an in-ring superstar.
During her return, Becky Lynch was on the receiving end of an angered AJ Lee. This came after The Man and Seth Rollins had been tormenting CM Punk for the past few months, and now, it seems like a mixed tag team match is set for both wrestling couples.
AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch is a match that many have been waiting for, as both women never shared the ring in the 2010s. Lee was already retired when Lynch debuted in the main roster in 2015; hence, a lot of people are looking forward to what is about to come.
However, another name that could certainly be an interesting opponent for the returning star is none other than Mercedes Mone, the former Sasha Banks.

Following AJ’s WWE return, Triple H posted the iconic finger-point photo on social media with the caption welcoming her back. However, some fans think that the first part of the caption may be directed to the former Sasha Banks, who left WWE in 2022 after wrestling for the company since 2012. She is currently in AEW, joining the company last year.
AJ and Mercedes are both very accomplished female wrestlers. Lee challenged authority and is credited by many as a trailblazer for uplifting and inspiring women, with some even becoming wrestlers themselves as a result.
Meanwhile, Mone is one of the most accomplished wrestlers of today, a five-time RAW Women’s Champion, one-time SmackDown and NXT Women’s Champion, and a six-time Women’s Tag Team Champion. Currently, she holds nine physical belts across different promotions.
A feud in the modern era would definitely be an interesting feud to see. Both women are regarded for their in-ring and promo skills, but not only that, their status in their careers has shifted. Although the WWE star is already considered by many as a legend, she can’t rival the accomplishments in championships Mercedes already has and had, as AJ was only around 28 when she retired.
On the other hand, the legacy AJ has cultivated in a short amount of time and in an era when women’s wrestling wasn’t taken seriously or given proper opportunity is more than impressive, and something that the AEW star won’t experience thanks to the likes of Lee.
All in all, Triple H re-signing Mercedes Mone and eventually feuding with AJ Lee will definitely be one that fans won’t have to miss. It would be a battle between the past and the future in the present, legacy vs. championships, and it will be interesting to see what will happen now that the former fan has become an idol herself.
