Is This The Last Time John Cena Is Going To Wrestle At WrestleMania?

John Cena WrestleMania

John Cena made his latest return to WWE on the March 6th episode of Monday Night Raw.

The star walked out to a monster ovation at the TD Garden in Boston, but before he could address the crowd he was interrupted by Austin Theory. The United States Champion said that he’d got a gift for the Hollywood megastar, and that gift was a match at WrestleMania 39.

Cena surprisingly turned the match down, at least initially. The 16-time World Champion said that Theory hadn’t earned the right to make such a challenge, before laying bare the young star’s apparent failings to the world. In the end, Cena did agree to face Theory at WrestleMania at the urging of the crowd.

Interestingly, Cena appeared visibly emotional as he made his entrance. Writing on Twitter after the show, Cena said it was the first time where he thought he could be appearing for the last time.

“Last night was the first time I entered the arena and had the thought that it might be the last time. I’ll never be able to put into words how much I love the #WWEUniverse”

Is John Cena Going To Retire?

These comments only added further fuel to the fire regarding rumours around his in-ring future. As his matches become more and more infrequent, some have suggested this could be his last match at WrestleMania, if not altogether.

Although he wrestled multiple times on the house show circuit in 2021 and 2019, Cena has only had ten televised matches since March 2018. Furthermore, his most recent match on the December 30th, 2022 episode of SmackDown came over a year after he last wrestled.

All of this begs the question, could WWE fans be about to see John Cena wrestle for the final time?
