Miroslav Petrov Barnyashev, better known as Rusev, was born on December 25th, 1985, in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and he is a professional wrestler currently signed to WWE.

Barnyashev’s athletic journey began in his youth, when he attended a sports school in Bulgaria. He excelled in rowing and powerlifting, which led to him being considered for the Bulgarian Olympic team for the 2012 London Games.

Barnyashev embarked on his professional wrestling career in 2008, training under WWE legends Rikishi and Gangrel at Knokx Pro Wrestling Academy.He signed with WWE in 2010, initially performing in developmental territories like Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and NXT under the ring name Alexander Rusev.

Rusev made his main roster debut in 2014, quickly establishing himself as a formidable force with an undefeated streak and a dominant persona dubbed “The Bulgarian Brute.”Managed by Lana, his real-life wife, Rusev captured the United States Championship three times and entered WrestleMania 31 in a tank.

After his release from WWE in 2020, he joined AEW under the moniker Miro. During his time there, he captured the TNT Championship and became known as the Redeemer. However, injury and reported creative differences kept him from television for months. He was released from AEW in 2024.

In April 2025, Rusev made a surprising return to WWE on Monday Night Raw, attacking members of the Alpha Academy and reasserting his dominance. This marked his first appearance in WWE in five years.
