AEW Star Provides Update On Contract Status Amid Prolonged Injury Absence

Having been absent from AEW television for much of 2024, The Blade, known for his partnership with The Butcher, has provided an update on his current status.

The AEW star has been sidelined due to a lower back injury and expressed his gratitude to Tony Khan for granting him time off to heal. His last appearance was in January 2024, teaming with Kip Sabian and The Butcher to take on Mark Briscoe and The Hardys. His last wrestling match to date was on February 4th at A1 Watch The Throne 7 in Canada.

In an interview with K&S WrestleFest, The Blade shared the following update on his status:

I’m just on injury reserve right now but yes, still with the company [AEW].

When asked if he would return before All In on August 25th, 2024, The Blade expressed hope for his return, stating:

I’m hoping so.. My back’s bad. It’s slowly but surely getting better but I’m hoping to be back in a couple months and I hope to be back by then… A lot of wear and tear… Might be [having surgery]. That’s what we’re in the midst of right now.

The Blade also disclosed the extent of his back injuries, indicating that he has two bulging discs (L2 L3 and L4 L5) and two ruptured discs (L3 L4 and L5 S1). He emphasised the role of physical therapy in aiding his recovery and staying on track.
