AEW Commentator Reveals Who Are The Best Commentary Teams

AEW commentator Tony Schiavone recently revealed who he thinks are the best announce teams in wrestling.

During an episode of his “What Happened When” podcast, Tony Schiavone watched back an episode of “WWE Prime Time Wrestling” from May 1989, when he worked for WWE as an announcer and behind the scenes, where the discussion of the greatest announce teams in wrestling history was brought up.

I think the most iconic two-man broadcast team is Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler.

Fellow AEW commentator Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler were the main announce team for WWE at the height of the Monday Night War era and beyond, while Tony was the main play-by-play announcer in WCW up until its demise in 2001.

Tony also put out high praise for Gorilla Monsoon and his colour commentator partners over the years.

You could put [Bobby] Heenan and Gorilla [Monsoon] next, and I even put Gorilla and Jesse Ventura up there because they were basically the big play-by-play guys for the main WWF shows back then, but those are like number one and two, to me.

Tony Schiavone worked behind the microphone with Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan and Jesse Ventura during his short WWE tenure from 1989-1990, and later worked regularly with Ventura and Heenan throughout the 1990s in WCW.

“You Don’t Want To Kill Yourself”: Tony Schiavone’s Advice To Top AEW Star

Tony Schiavone is currently one of the main announcers for AEW and in another recent episode of his podcast, Tony expressed concerns over Will Ospreay’s fast paced in-ring style and that he had warned him to slow down some of the things he’s doing as Ospreay still has a long career ahead of him.
