WWE Hall of Famer Stevie Ray shared an intriguing anecdote involving Hollywood actor Matt Damon and former WWE Tag Team Champions, The Nasty Boys, Brian Knobbs and Jeremy Sags. Recounting a night in the early nineties, Stevie Ray described a gathering of wrestlers at a hotel lobby bar, where they encountered a young Matt Damon working as a bartender.
We’re staying at the Holiday Inn. We just got done wrestling. It’s me, Haku, Nasty Boys. We’re waiting in the lobby and we’re going to hit some of the college clubs. I come downstairs and there’s a guy working behind the bar. I remember Knobbs saying ‘Hey Stevie, do you know this guy?’ Guess who it was, Matt Damon.
According to Stevie Ray, in an episode of his podcast, Stand Up for Greatness, The Nasty Boys’ perception of reality seemed blurred as they appeared to struggle to distinguish Damon from his antagonist role in the movie School Ties. This misunderstanding led to a physical altercation, with Knobbs, Sags, and Damon.
It’s only a movie but Sags and Knobbs are taking it for real, We’re marking out and then Knobbs and Sags are like ‘this son of a b**ch’ and (Knobbs) hits him in the f**king chest. He hits him like Larry Holmes. The kid buckles over. Sags hit him too.
Stevie Ray recalled the incident, describing the Nasty Boys’ aggressive response to Damon’s presence, which resulted in a physical confrontation. He expressed his scepticism about Damon’s potential in Hollywood at the time, also noting a lighthearted argument between himself and Damon over the acting abilities of Morgan Freeman and Wesley Snipes.
