Growing up in New Orleans, Starks developed a passion for professional wrestling at a young age, idolizing performers such as The Undertaker, The Rock, and Mankind. Determined to pursue a career in wrestling, he began his training in 2012 under the guidance of Mr. Mexico II in Austin, Texas.

Starks made his professional debut on August 10th, 2012, in a WWE SmackDown episode, participating in a handicap match against Jinder Mahal. Following this, he competed in various independent promotions across Texas, including Anarchy Championship Wrestling and Inspire Pro Wrestling.

In 2018, Starks joined the NWA, where he quickly rose to prominence. At the NWA 70th Anniversary Show on October 21st, 2018, he participated in a four-way elimination match. On July 14, 2021, during the Fyter Fest event, Starks defeated Brian Cage to win the FTW Championship, marking his first title in AEW. He held the championship for 378 days before losing it to Hook on July 27th, 2022. In 2023, Starks won the Men’s Owen Hart Cup and had a high-profile rivalry with Bryan Danielson but was then removed from AEW television due to backstage issues with Tony Khan. He was released from AEW in February 2025.
